About the Art:
Africa is one of the most diverse continents in its culture, geography, politics and religion. There is much stereotypical misconception of what African art is. However, like it's people, the art is just as diverse. To give some brief examples, in this website we will explore the indigenous art of Hausa Fulani, Yoruba and the Ibo.
These tribes are mainly from an Islamic or Christian religion covering the regions of Nigeria and mainly West Africa which is reflected through their art. Indigenous art is a traditional art or craft that "belongs" to a particular place and is unique. Indigenous art is more about the reflection of the trial community than it is of abstract interpretations. To study this topic is important in understanding other's past, ancestry and beliefs.
